"Then. Now. Forever." The WWE video leads us into the show.

The Highlight Reel with special guest Randy Orton

The Highlight Reel set is in the ring, and Chris Jericho's music is playing as the show opens. Jericho is smiling as the fans give him a great reception. Jericho soaks in the reaction, and the crowd chants "Y2J." Jericho says, "Welcome to 'RAW is Jericho!'" Jericho says the name of the town for a cheap pop. Labor Day is a holiday for hard workingmen and women such as those in the crowd. It's ironic that his guest is a man who has never worked a day in his life. His guest has had everything handed to him on a silver platter.

Jericho goes to introduce Randy Orton, but Triple H's music hits. Triple H comes out with Randy Orton, Corporate Kane, and Seth Rollins. The crowd boos as they enter the ring. Jericho says he was expecting Orton to come out by himself. Instead, he's with his law firm, "Sellout, suck-up, and schnozz." Corporate Kane wants to remind him that he's talking about Triple H. Triple H takes the microphone and says he can handle this. Triple H says this is Chris Jericho, the man who never grew up, literally and figuratively. Triple H would love to swap insults with him, but he has important business to take care of. Jericho says he is a little guy, but he's confused as to what he said since he doesn't conduct important business in the ring unless his wife is getting put in jail. Triple H says Jericho should be more concerned with thanking him than coming up with witty banter. Triple H then begins laughing at Jericho's scarf, and Jericho says he at least isn't wearing a pink tie. Triple H says, "It's violet, nimrod." Triple H says he should be thanking him for making this the most historic Highlight Reel in history because he has been reviewing the match at SummerSlam with John Cena and Brock Lesnar. He's reviewed and watched the match over and over again, and everyone else can on the WWE Network for only $9.99. In watching it, Triple H has come to the conclusion that it might not be best for business to have a rematch with John Cena taking on Brock Lesnar. Triple H is contemplating naming a new number one contender for Night of Champions.

Jericho wants to get this straight – you can get the WWE Network for only $9.99? Jericho then calls attention to Triple H changing his mind on giving John Cena his rematch. Jericho wonders who it could be. Orton says there is only one man who can beat Brock Lesnar, and that man is in the arena as a 12-time champion. He's a third generation superstar and the most vicious superstar in the locker room that has earned everything he has gotten. Kane says maybe it should be someone who unleashes a certain mask, unlocks the gates of Hell, and puts a Demon on the Beast Incarnate. Seth Rollins, who gets a great hand being from Iowa, says perhaps the future has already arrived. They chant his name, and he begins to smirk. Rollins says the future has already arrived in Mr. Money in the Bank himself. He did take out Dean Ambrose, and he has become one of the most intelligent and dangerous superstars in the locker room. Jericho says maybe they should give the chance to a six-time world champion and the first undisputed WWE Champion in history, Chris Jericho.

John Cena's music hits, and he power walks out to the ring. The crowd loudly boos him. Cena says just because Triple H's best friends Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels don't think he can beat Lesnar doesn't mean he can't. Those two people didn't think he could beat him at WrestleMania 22, yet Triple H tapped out. If you don't remember that, go watch it for $9.99. This isn't back in the day when Triple H was talking about who he liked and didn't like. He's running the company as the COO. He invoked his rematch clause, and Triple H authorized it. If Triple H thinks about taking it away from him, he'll think about taking him to court. He'll sue him for every single penny he has, and then he'll be the COO. Then his first order of the business will be to say, "Triple H, you're fired!" Cena tells Triple H to save a headache and his job. The rematch is happening. He's not just going to beat Brock Lesnar. He's going to beat his ass.

Triple H says, "Wow." Triple H laughs at Cena threatening to sue. "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect, Lawsuit" has a nice ring to it. Cena is so blind at an opportunity for redemption that he's threatening lawsuits. This is what he's trying to protect against. Cena is too small-minded to understand it, but he knows what being the COO means. It means no matter what, he does what is best for business for the "WWWE" (direct quote) every single day. Triple H says he'll be the first to admit that John Cena as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion isn't what's best for business anymore. However, he also knows that Cena's career ending at the hands of Brock Lesnar at Night of Champions isn't best for business at all.

Rollins tells Triple H to let him have the rematch. What's the worst that could happen? If an opportunity should present itself, there's always Plan B. Rollins looks at the briefcase. Orton says Cena has earned the rematch, as he has. Orton tells Triple H to give him the winner because he's owed a rematch from WrestleMania XXX. Jericho interjects and says this is still The Highlight Reel. Since WrestleMania, Orton has had 10,000 title matches and succeeded a grand total of never. The last big match he saw Orton have, he got Superman Punched and Speared by Roman Reigns. Orton says Reigns beating him at SummerSlam means nothing. If he were here right now, he'd drop that piece of crap where he stands. Orton warns Jericho to proceed with caution because he won't like the punch line to the joke.

Roman Reigns' music hits, and he makes his way to the ring through the crowd. Reigns stares at Orton as he gets in the ring. Reigns says he's here before telling Orton to drop him. Triple H holds Orton back. Reigns says Orton is all talk. As for Kane and Rollins, they still look mad about him breaking up the eulogy for Dean Ambrose and nearly crushing their skulls with a cinder block. That's him reminding Rollins that they still have unfinished business, however the business at hand is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and he wants his name in the hat. Triple H says everyone thinks they could be champion. Triple H isn't sure Cena really believes he's up to snuff. He'll give everyone an opportunity to see who can earn their spot. It'll be Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Kane taking on John Cena, Roman Reigns, and Chris Jericho. He'll sit at ringside and watch.

The Authority goes to leave, but Rollins sneaks back in and tries to blindside Reigns with the briefcase. Reigns ducks it and punches him down. He then throws the briefcase at Rollins.

Michael Sam is invited to Monday Night RAW next week to talk about getting cut.

A video package recaps the events of last week with the Hall of Fame panel, John Cena's promo, Brock Lesnar's retort, and Cena's performance in the main event.

Paul Heyman makes his way out to the stage. He says, "Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman, and I am the advocate for the reigning, defending, undisputed WWE Heavyweight Champion of the world, Brock Lesnar." His client has authorized him to enlighten them on the term "over-compensatory behavior." As any educated and qualified psychoanalyst would testify on his behalf, that is exactly what has been exhibited by their hero, John Cena, ever since he was defeated in the most one-sided title match in WWE History at SummerSlam by his client, Brock Lesnar. What he's about to tell them is not conjecture – it's historical fact backed by evidence. Still photos are shown of Brock Lesnar destroying John Cena at SummerSlam. Heyman says his client beat, victimized, and conquered John Cena at SummerSlam. Now it's time to add an adjective to that. His client emasculated Cena at SummerSlam. Like any great champion before him, Cena has seen the day where he has been stripped of his manhood. What happens when a champion faces that fate? They stop listening to reason. Last week, Cena didn't listen to the wisdom of the Hall of Fame panel. Tonight, Cena didn't listen to what's best for business as strategized by Triple H. Triple H sees John Cena as a cash cow that will be milked for the last time at Night of Champions by Brock Lesnar.

Cena is so desperate for the fans to hold on to the image of him as being relevant. That's why he ate through the Wyatts last week and why he'll be great in tonight's main event. Heyman says you could stack the entire locker room and multiplied it by infinity, and it still won't equate to half of the brutality and dominance that Cena will suffer from and be subjected to at Night of Champions by his client, the Beast and champion of the world, Brock Lesnar.
