"Then. Now. Forever." The WWE video leads us into the show.
A video recaps the events of the previous evening's PPV. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins fought in a wild Hell in a Cell match that started on the roof of the structure. Ambrose had Rollins beat until Bray Wyatt made his return and attacked him. John Cena also defeated Randy Orton to get another opportunity at Brock Lesnar's WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Kane are in the ring as we go live in the arena. Lilian Garcia introduces them to the crowd. McMahon welcomes everyone to Monday Night RAW. She knows everyone is so happy to have them grace them with their presence. For those that missed the Hell in a Cell PPV, they missed a "hell of a show." For those that watched on the WWE Network, they got way more than their money's worth for $9.99. The two Hell in a Cell matches were worth the price of admission. Triple H says it was a slightly bittersweet night with Randy Orton losing an epic Hell in a Cell match against John Cena, but then there was this man who they have referred to as "The Future of WWE," he is becoming the standard bearer of the WWE, Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins.
Seth Rollins' music hits, and he makes his way out to the ring with Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury. The Authority claps for him as he limps down to the ring smiling. Rollins gets in the ring, and Triple H raises his arm for the crowd. McMahon says, "Let's hear it for Seth Rollins," and the crowd boos, which Stephanie calls a "warm welcome." A "You sold out" chant breaks out, but Rollins just laughs it off. Rollins says the crowd is the best before thanking them. Rollins says that Dean Ambrose is finally out of his hair once and for all. Rollins says Ambrose is no longer a thorn in his side. Last night, he proved once and for all that intellect conquers every single time over unbridled mayhem perpetuated by a madman who should be institutionalized. Now that he's done with Ambrose, he sees on his horizon the man who soundly defeated Randy Orton last night at Hell in a Cell. The crowd chants for Ambrose, but Rollins says no to that. Rollins says he's moving on to John Cena. The crowd boos that. A weak "Let's go Cena/ Cena sucks," chant breaks out. Rollins says he'll be able to see John Cena later tonight, and he mocks Cena's "You can't see me" taunt. Rollins says everyone will see Cena as he left Ambrose last night at Hell in a Cell: lying in a puddle of his own failure. Rollins' music plays, and Triple H raises his arm again.
Randy Orton's music hits, and he storms down to the ring. Orton sarcastically says he's sorry for breaking up the love-fest. Orton asks if Rollins really believes he's the future of WWE and the standard bearer. Orton asks why he's already heard twice that he's lost to Cena at Hell in a Cell. Orton says maybe he lost last night because Rollins Curb Stomped him last week on RAW. Orton says Rollins has one hell of a finish as he's still seeing stars. Orton says he was thinking of checking himself into anger management again like in 2006, but he decided against it. Orton made a promise to himself. The Authority didn't handle it. If The Authority didn't deal with Rollins, then he would. Orton then attacks Rollins, but he's pulled apart by the new stooges and Kane.
Triple H screams that they're not doing this here or tonight. Triple H yells at him to calm down, and Orton says he'll calm down when Rollins is dead. Triple H gets him to relax and take the night off. When the time is right, they will deal with this. This is not the night as emotions are too high. Triple H says something about Hell in a Cell, but Orton blows by him and gives Rollins an RKO before leaving the ring! Triple H looks profoundly angry that Orton just disregarded his orders. Orton's music plays as Kane and the new stooges check on the unconscious Rollins. They get him to his feet, and Rollins looks like he's completely out of it. They help him to the back.

John Cena addresses becoming the #1 Contender
John Cena makes his way to the ring to his customary mixed reception. Cena mentions that there is a lot of excitement in this town. They're acting like they'll be raising a championship banner tomorrow. A "Go Spurs Go" chant breaks out. Last night was an epic night. It might not have been the last chapter in John Cena versus Randy Orton, but it was one of the best. Two men went through hell for an opportunity to face The Beast. It was an opportunity to be the best. Last night at Hell in a Cell, he beat Randy Orton and has earned an opportunity to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. While Lesnar sits at home thinking he's a champion, he's here every night fighting like a champion. Whenever it is that Lesnar decides to come back to the WWE, he'll have to understand that when he stands in the ring with him, Lesnar will lose. Every single thing he does from now on is a statement to Lesnar. He can check off going through a future Hall of Famer in Hell in a Cell.
Tonight, right here in San Antonio, a city of champions gets a main event worthy of San Antonio. The Authority's standard-bearer, the self-proclaimed future of the WWE gets a first class wakeup call. If Seth Rollins is the future of WWE, then the future isn't tomorrow, next month, or next year. The future goes through him, but tonight he'll go through the future.
Stephanie McMahon's music hits, and she makes her way to the ring. McMahon congratulates Cena on his victory last night and can't wait for tonight's main event. She also can't wait for Survivor Series where they will see a traditional tag team elimination match for the low, low price on the WWE Network for $9.99. McMahon says she has a business proposition for Cena. Cena works so hard to win the people over, yet he panders to them over the Spurs to get them to cheer him. Cena doesn't have to do this. McMahon then mocks the Spurs chant. Cena says he listens to the people, which is something she should do. McMahon asks if he listens to when they say, "Cena sucks." She can hear that. Her point is to not upset or offend him. She wants him to do what's best for business. A "Cena" chant breaks out. McMahon says one arena chants his name and that removes years and years of others chanting against him. The people don't matter. What they care about is seeing Cena on the mat, tearing himself apart and leaving it all on the line. Cena leaves it all out there every night and for what? For the crowd's appreciation? Cena could join The Authority and come to a place where he'll be loved, appreciated, and respected. They care about what Cena does. Cena is going to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a man that has handily beaten Cena time and time again. Lesnar has left Cena's carcass lying to the people's cheers. The Authority could offer some insurance. Maybe they could help guarantee a victory. McMahon tells him to think about it. Maybe the winner of his match against Rollins could be the captain of Team Authority. They could give him the power that he desperately deserves. Cena deserves the respect and accolades. Cena deserves to be a part of a family.
Cena says all he deserves is to come down the ramp and tell the fans how much he loves that. McMahon claims that the people want to see him beat up, but his fans show up to WWE live every week because they're all a part of this. Cena says the crowd isn't here for him. He's here for them. McMahon is asking him to sell out and turn his back, but she says she's asking him to ensure his legacy. When Cena loses and is gone, the people won't care. They won't even remember John Cena, but they can make sure he does. Cena says they'll remember him as a lowlife, sellout punk. That's something he'll never be. Cena says his answer is, "Hell no!"
Triple H's music hits, and the COO of WWE makes his way to the ring. Triple H says he told McMahon so. Cena will continue to play the hero. Triple H says Cena has been in the WWE ten or twelve years, but he's been here for twenty. It gets harder every single year. Cena is starting to eek by every single night. Cena is hanging on by a thread, physically and mentally because Cena knows what he knows. Cena cannot fight the future. It's coming whether Cena wants to believe it or not. It doesn't have to be as hard as it is for Cena right now or as hard as it will get. This business is about longevity and doing the right thing over time. Either that, or Cena can be the beat up old shell of himself that comes in for one last hurrah. That doesn't suit Cena because he's a really smart guy. Triple H says he maybe has to prove to Cena that he cannot stop the future. Triple H tells Cena to have it his way and work against The Authority. They'll have Team Authority. Triple H tells Cena to feel free to find people to stand up against the system that will see if they can survive against The Authority. Team Authority will face off against Cena's Team. Cena cannot fight the future. It will run through Cena whether it be tonight or at Survivor Series. The Authority is the future. Cena had better smarten up to the fact that The Authority always wins.
