OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS FOR CENA & BENOIT
In an attempt to be Superstar-friendly, General Manager Paul Heyman gave many
SmackDown! Superstars a great opportunity. He held a 20-man battle royal, with
the winner of the match going on to face Brock Lesnar next week on SmackDown!
Heyman then went on to proclaim that the next two hours were going to be the
greatest Thanksgiving spectacular in the history of broadcast television. He did
not disappoint.
Prior to the battle royal, two SmackDown! Superstars were forced to compete in
qualifying matches. Those men were John Cena and Chris Benoit. Cena was forced
to face A-Train, while Benoit took on the mighty Matt Morgan. Both men were
successful in their matches and moved on to the battle royal.
Ironically, the two men that had to fight just to be in the battle royal were
the final two men in the battle royal. Typically in battle royals, there is a
clear cut winner. That was not the case here, as both men seemingly landed on
the arena floor at the same time. It was clearly too close to call. Therefore,
GM Heyman declared that John Cena and Chris Benoit would face each other next
week on SmackDown! to determine who would face Brock Lesnar for the WWE
Championship.
Also on SmackDown!, Hardcore Holly was interviewed in his home via satellite by
Michael Cole. The suspended Holly promised that when his suspension gets lifted,
he was going to break Lesnar's neck.
As promised, Ernest "The Cat" Miller entertained the Idaho fans on SmackDown! He
did not do so, however, by himself. He had the lovely Torrie Wilson entertaining
along with him.
Match results:
Chris Benoit def. Matt Morgan
