ANGLE SUFFERS A HORRIFIC FALL
April 15, 2004

There are times when SmackDown! General Manager Kurt Angle is a man that everybody loves to hate. There are other times when Angle is a man that can make everybody laugh. On SmackDown!, the jeers and jokes so often sent Angle’s way were suddenly silenced when the concern of the entire sports entertainment world turned his way. A horrific fall from a ledge in the belly of Indianapolis Conseco Fieldhouse, courtesy of the Big Show, left Angle bloodied, battered and unconscious as SmackDown! came to an end. Now Angle could be in for the battle of his life – and it has nothing to do with his exploits in the ring.

The incident occurred after SmackDown! was set to go off the air. The Big Show – who earlier in the evening lost a match to Eddie Guerrero after he had vowed to quit WWE if he lost – had stalked Torrie Wilson after he thought he heard her laughing at him after the loss. An enraged Show brought the Diva to the ledge and threatened to throw her off because of the situation that occurred earlier. As the cameras prepared to stop rolling to end the evening, Angle was summoned to the scene where he ran up to the ledge to try to convince Show to let Wilson go. The situation escalated to the point where Show let Wilson go, but instead grabbed Angle. After some words between the two, Angle was hurled off of the ledge and landed several feet below. As the SmackDown! cameras stopped rolling, Angle was seen unconscious on the floor in a pool of his own blood.

Next week, SmackDown! comes to you from Kelowna, British Columbia where there will be an update offered on Angle’s condition. How bad were the injuries that Angle suffered? Is the Big Show’s career with WWE over? Will Show be held accountable for his actions against Angle? Find out on SmackDown!

The incident overshadowed a night when Booker T showed that the recent change in his behavior is permanent. One week after abandoning former best friend Rob Van Dam during a tag team match, the two squared off in the ring. An otherwise clean match was marred when Van Dam became tangled in the ropes. Instead of helping Van Dam out so the match could continue, Booker T assaulted a helpless Van Dam to the point where Booker T was disqualified. The assault continued long after the bell rang, and only ended when RVD fell through the ropes to the floor. Booker T then celebrated with his trademark Spinaroony, seemingly satisfied with what he did. It seems as if Booker T is now the most hated man in the SmackDown! locker room.

SmackDown! also featured the debut of Rico as he made a grand entrance along with Miss Jackie. Rico also found an innovative way to score a victory over Charlie Haas. Instead of pinning Haas, Rico kissed his foe and then scared him away from the ring with a display of his pink underwear. Haas not only was counted out, but the interaction with Rico caused him to vomit right in front of the SmackDown! cameras.

By the time the night was over, however, all thoughts were on Angle and the serious medical situation he faced as SmackDown! came to an end. Don’t miss SmackDown! next week when Angle’s condition is updated and the fallout from this situation develops. It all happens next Thursday night at 8/7 CT on UPN.
