TIMELY ARRIVAL
Oct. 14, 2004
Nobody had seen Big Show the entire night.
Thankfully for Eddie Guerrero, his timing was impeccable.
Kurt Angle, Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak were giving away free haircuts in
Manchester, England, Thursday night, and Latino Heat was their first unwilling
customer.
But before Angle’s fiendish friends could warm up the clipper, Big Show arrived
on the scene and cleared house, making sure his friend Guerrero didn’t suffer
the same humiliating fate he did at the hands of Angle.
Show’s appearance delighted the United Kingdom crowd and capped another
unpredictable night on SmackDown!
Both the WWE and United States Championships were on the line Thursday, although
neither changed hands.
JBL, who has been put through the ringer in recent weeks, survived a Hardcore
Rules Match with Hardcore Holly, using a steel chair to finish off the job.
The violent brawl marked the first time the WWE Championship had been decided in
a Hardcore Match. Television monitors, street signs and garbage cans were all
part of the arsenal for both Superstars.
Meanwhile, at the top of the program, General Manager Theodore Long confirmed
that former United States Champion John Cena was indeed involved in a nightclub
melee last week in Boston.
Cena is currently recovering from multiple puncture wounds, including some
dangerously close to his kidney.
The tragedy opened the door for a new No. 1 contender, which was decided by an
18-man Battle Royal, with the winner facing current United States Champion
Carlito Caribbean Cool.
The fierce Battle Royal came down to Angle and Rey Mysterio, who somehow managed
to avoid multiple attempts to toss him out.
With Angle on the outside apron, an exhausted Mysterio unveiled one last trick,
using the 619 to bounce the Olympic Champion off the ropes and onto the floor.
But his luck would run out against Carlito Caribbean Cool. Mysterio held his own
against the bigger champion, but for the second straight week, the young Cool
was too slick for the referee, this time using the ropes for the roll up and
victory.
Cool left the ring with his Championship, and he continues to wear Cena’s steel
chain as a memento of his victory in Boston.
Heidenreich is more unstable than ever. Paul Heyman brought his client into the
ring to apologize for last week’s attack of four WWE fans, per orders of Long.
And after the most insincere of apologies, Heidenreich made it clear he wasn’t
sorry for attacking Undertaker at No Mercy. He even went as far as to call the
Phenom out, demanding he come to the ring or someone else would pay.
But before Heidenreich could find another innocent victim, he appeared to have a
mental breakdown, pummeling himself in the head before falling to the mat in
anguish.
