Holy S***!

June 12, 2003
This week’s SmackDown! featured one of the true “Holy s***!” moments of all time, as the ring actually collapsed during Brock Lesnar and Big Show’s WWE Championship match! And in one of Mr. McMahon’s all-time lows, Zach Gowen’s dreams of attaining a WWE contract were shattered when the evil chairman resorted to cheating tactics to defeat the skinny, one-legged aspiring wrestler.

With Brock putting his championship on the line one more time against the mammoth Big Show, the stakes were higher than ever. Looking to put away the challenger once and for all, Lesnar attempted a superplex off the top turnbuckle on the 7-foot-2, 500-pound behemoth. He succeeded, but as a result of all that weight crashing down on the canvas, the ring completely gave way right around the combatants!

Cornerposts fell inward, ropes fell limp to the mat, and the entire structure tilted sideways as the support structure gave way. Even referee Mike Chioda was knocked for a loop as EMTs made their way to ringside. The show went off the air with the EMTs attending to the apparently unconscious competitors. No word has yet been received as to their condition.

The dastardly Vince McMahon was quite proud of himself for beating Zach Gowen in an arm-wrestling contest, even though he had to kick the handicapped young man in his artificial leg in order to gain the victory! Gowen appeared to be on the verge of tears as McMahon berated him and dismissed him to the back. It looks as though Gowen’s fantasy of competing in WWE will remain just that, a fantasy.

Prior to this, Vince had forced Gowen’s buddy Mr. America to leave the ring by beating him in an arm-wrestling match. Of course, in order to win that one, the chairman had to cheat as well—this time, Sable exposed her Sable-icious “puppies” to Mr. A, causing him to lose his concentration (can you blame him??) and the match!

Team Angle shocked the world by kicking their former leader—the recently returned Kurt Angle—to the curb in violent fashion. Angle had called out his boys and demanded they explain themselves for “calling in sick” for his comeback show last week. They declared that they were sick of being in Angle’s shadow, and the Olympic hero responded by booting Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin from Team Angle. Little did he suspect that the former WWE Tag Team Champions were waiting for him in the back, ready to put the boots to him!

Piper’s Pit featured WWE Tag Team Champions Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri, and it looks like a major war is brewing between them and Roddy Piper & Sean O’Haire! Piper tried to humiliate the champs, and O’Haire tried to steal one of their title belts, but Eddie & Tajiri weren’t having it. After drinking some of the saki Piper so graciously provided Tajiri, the Japanese Buzzsaw spit it right back in his face, allowing Eddie to clock O’Haire and reclaim the belt. This one is most definitely not over.

Also on the show, Billy Gunn returned to action with a win over A-Train. Following the match, it appears that the one-time “Mr. Ass” hooked up with Torrie Wilson, the guest ring announcer! The Basham Brothers, Doug & Danny, debuted with their valet Shaniqua (aka Linda Miles), and scored an impressive upset over the duo of Rhyno & Chris Benoit. Thanks to some miscommunication, it looks like there may be some dissension in the ranks between those two! And the Undertaker felt the wrath of the Full-Blooded Italians, falling victim to a post-match chairshot from FBI leader Nunzio. ‘Taker won his match against Johnny “The Bull” Stamboli, but he may be losing the war.

Match results:
Rey Mysterio pinned Matt Hardy after a West Coast Pop from the top turnbuckle to retain the Cruiserweight Championship in 4 minutes and 50 seconds.

Billy Gunn pinned A-Train as a result of a Fame-ass-er after 1:28.

Undertaker pinned Johnny “The Bull” Stamboli following the Last Ride at 3:45.

The Basham Brothers defeated Rhyno & Chris Benoit when Doug Basham pinned Benoit after a modified Rocker Dropper in 3:25.

John Cena pinned Funaki as a result of the “F-U” Death Valley Driver after 34 seconds.

In a WWE Championship match, Brock Lesnar and the Big Show wrestled to a no-contest due to the ring collapsing when Lesnar superplexed Show from the top turnbuckle.
