NOW THAT'S COOL
Oct. 7, 2004
John Cena didn’t have to wrestle anybody on SmackDown! Thursday.
After all, he had just come off a grueling best-of-five series with Booker T for
the United States Championship, which concluded at No Mercy.
Besides, he was in Boston, just a few blocks away from his old neighborhood.
This was supposed to be a relaxing championship homecoming for Cena.
Instead, it turned out to be his worst nightmare.
Cena thought it would be a good idea to give cocky newcomer Carlito Caribbean
Cool a shot. Carlito wasn't exactly gracious for the chance.
But that decision proved to be ever so costly, as Carlito, in his WWE debut,
shocked Cena and the crowd by capturing the United States Championship in his
very first WWE match.
Carlito looked like a wily veteran in the ring, knocking Cena out with his own
steel chain while the referee was distracted.
That main event capped off a wild night on SmackDown!
Earlier in the program, General Manager Theodore Long had some interesting news
about the gruesome collision that took place at the end of No Mercy.
It turns out Undertaker was nowhere to be found when paramedics sorted through
the back of that destroyed hearse, which came as disturbing news for Paul
Heyman.
Meanwhile, JBL, still bandaged up from his No Mercy battle with ‘Taker, was
forced to take on Hardcore Holly. After re-opening the cut on his forehead, the
WWE Champion headed for the exits, getting himself counted out on purpose.
Long eventually announced that JBL would see Holly on SmackDown! next week in
Manchester, England. But this time it would be a Hardcore Rules Match for the
WWE Championship.
Big Show, who’s still on a mission to punish Kurt Angle and friends for their
head-shaving actions of three weeks ago, got some revenge by defeating Mark
Jindrak. Show even received some help from Eddie Guerrero when the meddling
Luther Reigns and Angle tried to interfere.
Billy Kidman, once concerned for the welfare of others in the ring, has turned
into a ruthless thug.
In a match with Charlie Haas, Kidman took exception to Miss Jackie trying to
protect her fiancée from the Shooting Star Press. Jackie got hit with an
unnecessary BK Bomb for her trouble as Kidman left the ring smiling.
Heidenreich tried to read another poem, but when the rowdy Boston crowd didn’t
let him finish, the crazed Superstar took matters into his own hands, attacking
four fans.
