END OF SHOW?
JAN. 20, 2005
It wasn’t looking to be a good night for Kurt Angle.
Both WWE Champion JBL and Big Show were eagerly awaiting Angle’s arrival at
SmackDown! in Montreal Thursday night, and both had painful plans for the
Olympic Champion after he publicly apologized to Joy.
Angle’s sick practical joke last week involving Joy’s abduction left both men
furious. However, nobody turns lemons into lemonade quite like Angle.
Before the show was over, Angle formed an uneasy and unlikely alliance with JBL
and the two deviants organized a seven-on-one attack of the Big Show to close
the night.
The bloody assault included a vicious chair shot to the head and a blast from
the steel steps as Show was left down and out in Canada.
Suddenly, the condition of Show leading into the Royal Rumble’s Triple Threat
match on Jan. 30 in Fresno, California is a matter of major uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Heidenreich may have gotten a deadly glimpse into his future. After
coming to the ring to sign Carlito’s petition against General Manager Theodore
Long, Undertaker appeared on the Titantron monitor, standing over a casket
filled with a lifeless model of Heidenreich’s body.
Those two will face off in a Casket Match at the Royal Rumble.
SmackDown! also had three Superstars qualify for the Royal Rumble. Rey Mysterio
defeated Chavo Guerrero in a thrilling match between the cruiserweights.
Scotty 2 Hotty returned with authority, defeating Akio for another spot in the
Rumble. Plus, United States Champion John Cena defeated Rene Dupree to claim his
spot for the Chain Gang in Fresno. But after the match, Kenzo Suzuki, still
upset with last week’s loss, rushed the ring and attacked Cena.
Those two will meet again next week for the U.S. title.
In tag team action, Eddie Guerrero got caught cheating again. This time, after
using the belt to knock out Doug Basham, the referee turned just at the right
moment to catch Latino Heat with the hardware.
Booker T & Eddie were disqualified and the Basham Brothers retained their title.
Eddie and Booker had a brief argument in the middle of the ring after the match,
but apparently there were no hard feelings after Eddie returned to save Booker
from a 3-on-1 beating he was receiving from the Bashams and Orlando Jordan.
