READY FOR A SHOWDOWN
JAN. 27, 2005
Suddenly, Big Show’s problems don’t seem so bad.
One week after WWE Champion JBL and Kurt Angle shocked the world, forming an
unlikely alliance and violently attacking Show with a steel chair and ring
steps, the biggest Superstar in WWE got some creative revenge.
Show convinced SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long to arrange a Last Man
Standing match between JBL and Angle for the main event on SmackDown!
The result was an exhausting battle that left both JBL and Angle down and out as
Show watched from a backstage monitor wearing a devilish grin.
The match was a draw, with both Angle and JBL taking vicious shots with a chair
and being unable to get up before the required 10-count.
Now, all three Superstars appear to be on equal footing for their
highly-anticipated Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship at the Royal
Rumble this Sunday on pay-per-view from Fresno, California.
Meanwhile, SmackDown! had another qualifier Thursday as Paul London won a wild
Fatal Fourway, defeating Shannon Moore, Cruiserweight Champion Funaki and Spike
Dudley to earn a spot in the Royal Rumble Match.
John Cena defended his United States Championship for the second time in three
weeks against Kenzo Suzuki. He then grabbed the mic and told the fans he was
ready to roll with the Chain Gang into the Royal Rumble and emerge victorious.
Heidenreich read another poem, as his Casket Match with Undertaker this Sunday
rapidly approaches. His words were somewhat slurred however, as the unstable
giant began foaming from the mouth before dropping to his knees.
The coalition between JBL’s and Angle’s factions managed to last all of about 10
minutes as Luther Reigns, Mark Jindrak & Chief of Staff Orlando Jordan teamed up
to face Eddie Guerrero, Booker T & Rey Mysterio in a six-man tag match.
After the coalition was defeated, a brawl between Reigns, Jordan and Jindrak
soon followed before Angle and JBL stormed the ring, quickly dissolving the
fleeting alliance.
