ANOTHER ASSIST FROM DAD
September 1, 2005
The only person on more of a roll than Randy Orton lately might be his father,
Hall of Famer Cowboy Bob Orton.
For the third straight match, dating back to Randy’s victory over Undertaker at
SummerSlam, Bob Orton helped his son secure a victory, this time over Rey
Mysterio.
Mysterio actually connected on the 619 and was ready to Drop Da Dime until Bob
grabbed his leg and gave his son just enough time to recover. Orton then
promptly hit Mysterio with a low blow while the ref was busy with his father.
Moments later, it was the RKO that put Mysterio out for good.
Earlier in the night, Randy and Bob Orton asked the sellout Jacksonville,
Florida, crowd if it had seen Undertaker. Randy also invited Undertaker to next
week’s Friday Night SmackDown! so the Ortons could present Taker with the
retirement fund they’ve raised from auctioning the signed “Tombstone” DVD at
WWE.com.
United States Champion Chris Benoit took on former champion Orlando Jordan.
Amazingly, this time the match took a mere 23.4 seconds as Benoit made Jordan
tap out again.
World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Simon Dean had an interesting pre-match
exchange as Batista gave Simon Dean’s protein shake a try. Unfortunately,
Batista claimed the shake made him more aggressive as he proceeded to dismantle
Dean.
Next Friday on SmackDown! will be much more difficult as Batista takes on JBL in
a Bull Rope Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. In fact, JBL suggested
the Bull Rope Match to network executive Palmer Canon. Remember, JBL won the WWE
Championship in a Bull Rope Match last year against Eddie Guerrero.
Stacy Keibler and Christy Hemme, who had a Lingerie Pillow Fight that was barred
from network television last week, tried to have a traditional wrestling match
Thursday.
But before the match could start, Sylvan Grenier made an appearance. Grenier
insulted the look of the Divas, which ticked off Hardcore Holly, who came down
and slapped Grenier out of the ring, much to the delight of Christy and Stacy.
Newcomer Ken Kennedy upset Booker T in a wild singles match. Booker T seemed
destined for the win but was distracted when his wife Sharmell and Christian,
who was doing commentary, got in a shouting match at ringside.
Moments later, Kennedy recovered and connected with his Green Bay Plunge for the
big victory.
In other action, Heidenreich defeated Joey Mercury. After the match, Road
Warrior Animal and Heidenreich had the meddling Melina set up for the Doomsday
Device until Mercury and Nitro saved her.
Moments later, MNM sent Animal into the steel steps and flattened Heidenreich
with a Snapshot.
These teams will meet next week for the WWE Tag Team Championship when
SmackDown! comes to Friday nights.
Eddie Guerrero, appearing behind part of a steel cage, claimed Mysterio not only
took Dominick, but his whole family at SummerSlam. Guerrero asked Mysterio, “How
can you beat someone that has already lost everything?”
In tag team action, William Regal and new associate Paul Birchell defeated
Funaki & Scotty 2 Hotty as Birchell delivered a devastating shoulder breaker to
Scotty before making him submit to another painful shoulder maneuver.
