LIGHTS OUT
October 28, 2005
A rare SmackDown appearance by “Rowdy” Roddy Piper ended in storybook fashion on
Friday night at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
The unlikely trio of Batista, Eddie Guerrero and “The Rowdy One” defeated the
Ortons and Mr. Kennedy when Cowboy Bob fell victim to Piper’s sleeper hold.
Early on in the huge six-man tag team match, it looked as if another legend
might be “killed” at the hands of Randy Orton & Co. Rowdy Piper was beaten and
battered, and old ally Cowboy Bob Orton successfully cut the ring in half. But
when an overzealous “Ace” hit cheap shots on both Batista and Eddie, they in
turn entered the ring and blasted Bob. Then, Eddie attacked Kennedy while
Batista went after Randy Orton. Guerrero caught Kennedy with the Three Amigos
suplexes, while Randy absorbed a spinebuster from Batista. Once Randy hit the
canvas, Eddie immediately propelled Kennedy into spinebuster No. 2. A frog
splash to Kennedy followed, and he rolled out of the ring in pain. That left
legal man Cowboy Bob alone, who walked into Piper’s patented sleeper and passed
out to the submission hold.
Before the match, Batista remembered Eddie Guerrero’s 2004 WWE Championship win
at the Cow Palace by declaring that “Latino Heat is back!” and presenting him
with a Chevy Impala lowrider. The two competitors-turned-friends rode to the
ring in the heavily modified vehicle.
The Cow Palace fans also witnessed the crowning of new WWE Tag Team Champions
and a change of heart from the United States Champion.
The Fatal Fourway for the WWE Tag Team Championship pitted L.O.D. against MNM,
the Mexicools and Brits Paul Burchill & William Regal. Late in the match, Road
Warrior Animal & Heidenreich seemed poised to hit the Doomsday Device on
Burchill. Suddenly, James and Chad Dick attacked, knocking Heidenreich off top
turnbuckle. James and Chad brawled with Road Warrior Animal. Meanwhile, MNM’s
Mercury tagged himself in with legal man Heidenrich. With the other teams
occupied, MNM hit the Snapshot and scored the pin. Melina erupted in joy at
ringside, and just like that, MNM became two-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
Also, Rey Mysterio made a resounding case before the voting public to be
included in the SmackDown vs. RAW match at Taboo Tuesday. Mysterio defeated JBL,
Christian, Matt Hardy and Hardcore Holly in Five-Man Free-for-All Match.
Regardless of the result, it’s up to you to decide which two (of five) SmackDown
Superstars will face RAW’s Edge & Chris Masters at the pay-per-view on Nov. 1.

On another front, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long confronted Booker T
and Sharmell with footage from Booker’s United States Championship win. After
witnessing Sharmell’s illegal actions on tape, Booker demanded that Sharmell
accompany him to the ring to issue a public apology to former champion Chris
Benoit.
Once in the ring, Booker ushered Benoit from the backstage area to apologize in
person. But after an elaborate sham, Sharmell gave Booker T the cue to attack.
Booker hit Benoit with the United States Championship belt, then sidekicked him
off ring apron and into another vicious collision with announce table. It was
eerily reminiscent of The Crippler’s suicide dive last week that resulted in
multiple injuries.
And in SmackDown’s inaugural Juniors Division Match, Short Sleeve Sampson
defeated Pitbull Patterson After the match, the Juniors teamed up to take down
Simon Dean.
