- WWE Open.

- They went right to the arena where Todd Grisham and Matt Striker intro’d the show and the camera panned the crowd. The duo plugged Edge on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel tonight on Smackdown.

- Rey Mysterio opened the show as he came out to a good-sized pop from the crowd. Mysterio’s family followed him out – his wife, daughter and son. Striker mentioned that WWE fans have seen Dominic, Rey’s son, in the past, but didn’t go into any detail about it. Rey said that every week, the fans let him into their homes, so he wants to reciprocate this week. He said he considers the fans part of his familiar. He introduced his son, Dominick (and noted that he was taller than him), his wife Angie and daughter, Aalyah. Rey said sometimes when wrestlers are on the road, they miss important moments. But tonight, he said it was his daughter’s ninth birthday. “Happy Birthday” chant from the crowd. Rey led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to her. Near the end of the song, C.M Punk’s music interrupted and he and his Straight Edge Society crashed the festivities. I like where this is going already!

Rey shuffled his family into the corner and stood in front to protect them. Punk said not to stop on account of him, and finished the song. “You suck” chant from the fans, but it sounded a bit muted. Punk assured Rey he wasn’t out there to hurt him or his family. Punk said it’s nice that he and his family are in the ring with Rey and his family. He said it doesn’t get bigger than Wrestlemania, and challenged Rey to a match at the show. Not much of a response there. Punk also challenged him to a match tonight, but not later in the show – now. Mysterio was not dressed to compete, and his daughter seemed frightened. Punk told her not to be frightened. As his birthday present to her, she’d allow her to shut her eyes as he made her father beg for mercy. Then he turned his attention to Dominick, saying he has never heard his father squeal like a pig from someone stomping on his surgically repaired knees. He politely told Dominick he could plug his ears for that. He told Angie that she and Rey have shared the best of times, but after he gets done with Rey, it’ll be the worst of times. He advised her to cover her mouth to muffle the screams. Punk called Rey a coward, and said now his whole family knows it. He asked Rey what it would take to get him into a match. “619” chant from the crowd as Rey tried to talk to Punk off-mic. He asked Rey where his machismo was. Punk said he never had that machismo or courage. Punk got down on his knees and asked Rey to fight him. He was almost begging. He got back up and was in his face. He slapped Rey as Mysterio’s family exited the ring. Rey did too, ushering them to the aisle. Punk told the fans to watch Rey take his walk of shame. Punk, in an evil tone, again started singing “Happy Birthday” to Aalyah. By the time he got through with it, Mysterio and his family had gone to the back. Beautiful segment. I’m still hoping for a turn to the Straight Edge life by one of Rey’s kids.

- Grisham and Striker addressed the previous segment, with Grisham calling it “uncomfortable.” Striker said he could think of no greater humiliation than what just happened.

1 – THE MIZ vs. R-TRUTH

Daniel Bryan came to the ring with Miz, but stayed far behind him. They showed what happened in the ShoMiz vs. John Morrison & R-Truth match on Raw. Miz had the mic and addressed his challengers at Wrestlemania. He said later tonight, Show is going to show Morrison what he can do, but right now, he’s going to show Truth what he’s got. David Otunga came out with Truth.

Truth dodged a charge in the corner, did a split, and connected with a heel kick. Truth then clotheslined Miz over the top rope, then dove onto him at ringside. They went to break just shy of a minute into the match.

[Commercial Break]

Truth and Miz traded rights in the middle of the ring. High hip-toss by Truth. Back-breaker/neck-breaker combo by Miz for two. Truth with a roll-up…did Striker call it an “O’Connor roll”? Anyway, it got two. Miz tried a pin with his feet on the ropes, but Bryan pushed them off. Miz took his eye off the prize, which allowed Truth to hit the Lie Detector for the win.

WINNER: Truth, at 6:04. Striker was upset at Bryan for getting involved. Good match though.

- Tonight, for the first time in two years, the Highlight Reel. Edge is the special guest.

[Commercial Break]

- Striker plugged Audioslave’s “Be Yourself,” one of the many theme songs to Wrestlemania.

- The Johnny Cash Undertaker vs. Michaels video package aired, with comments from other wrestlers.

- Striker and Grisham discussed some of the top matches on the Wrestlemania card.

- Drew McIntyre weas walking backstage when Teddy Long popped out of his office. Long reminded McIntyre that he was defeated in both of his MITB qualifying matches, but McMahon expunged both of the losses. Derw is going to attempt to qualify again tonight. He said he was proud to be Intercontinental Champion, and proud to qualify for the MITB match tonight. Long said Mr. McMahon hand-picked Drew’s opponent tonight. While he is still on probation, he can’t change the match, but he can change the stipulations: so he made it a winner-take-all match, MITB qualifier AND I.C Title. It’s next.

[Commercial Break]

- Kane will face Luke Gallows tonight on Smackdown.

2 – DREW MCINTYRE vs. AARON BOLO - MONEY-IN-THE-BANK QUALIFIER AND INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

Chimel introduced McIntyre’s opponent as a 3-time Washington state wrestling champion and Mixed Martial Arts champion in the light-weight division. McIntyre clobbered Bolo with clotheslines in the corner. Hey, at least the jobber got an entrance and music. McIntyre with the Future Shock DDT for the win.

WINNER: McIntyre, at :32. Hard-fought victory for the youngster McIntyre. Will he have anything left in the tank for ‘Mania after this match?

McIntyre shouted at Striker to say he was going to Wrestlemania. Striker did so, and raised Mac’s arm in the process. Is that the new thing now, wrestlers yelling at the announcers to say something?

- Big Show was walking backstage. He takes on John Morrison next.

[Commercial Break]

3 – THE BIG SHOW vs. JOHN MORRISON

Morrison went on the attack off the bat, but Show put him down hard to the mat. Big chop to the chest by Show. He grabbed Morrison by the hair and shoved him to the canvas. Morrison attempted to fight back while Show tried to convince Morrison to stay reposed. Another chop to the chest as the trash-talking continued. Standing rear chin-lock by one-half of the Unified Tag Champs. Morrison finally got to the ropes to break the hold. However, Show booted him right in the side of the head, felling Morrison at ringside. Show brought Morrison in the hard way, but Morrison landed a desperate side-kick. Morrison caught Show charging in the corner with a dropkick to the knee. Chokeslam, but Morrison got set on the apron and Morrison kicked him in the head. Dropkick off the top by Morrison for two. Running knee to the seated Big Show for two. He tried the Flying Chuck Kick, but he turned around right into a big right hand. Show made the cover and picked up the win.

WINNER: Show, at 5:05. Well, the teams were even with one win tonight. Entertaining match, thanks to the things Morrison can do in the ring.

- Tonight, Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel with special guest Edge.

[Commercial Break]

- The announcers plugged WWE.com

- Teddy Long and Tiffany had a reunion of sorts backstage. Tiffany asked how Mickie James was doing after her knee injury, and Long said she was doing fine. Vickie Guerrero walked in and asked Vickie to welcome his good friend, Tiffany, to Smackdown. Vickie was aghast and said Tiffany was the reason ECW was cancelled. Long objected to that as Tiffany tried to play nice with Guerrero. Long said Tiffany is here to compete as a Diva, and not to take Vickie’s job. Guerrero had her t-shirt on that Simply Flawless gave her last week, under a suit jacket. Vickie told Tiffany to get her gear on, because she’s facing Michelle McCool tonight.

4 – THE HART DYNASTY vs. CRYME TYME

The poor Harts didn’t even get an entrance. Haven’t I been subjected to this match enough? JTG clipped Tyson Kidd with a right hand, but came down hard on his left knee in the corner. Kidd saw it immediately and chop-blocked it. He continued to work the leg and applied a single-leg Boston crab when the lights went out. Undertaker was in the ring when they came back on. He booted Kidd in the face and ended up taking out all four men, with a chokeslam, Tombstone, Hell’s Gate and Last Ride.

WINNERS: No Contest, at about 1:23 (no bell).

Taker assessed the damage after laying everyone out. His music played again as they showed replays of Taker’s destruction. The Dead Man looked back at the ring from atop the ramp as the announcers hyped his Wrestlemania match with Shawn Michaels.

[Commercial Break]

- The Raw Rebound aired.

- They showed the Space Needle in Seattle.

- Striker and Grisham discussed Steve Austin as Raw guest host Monday night. They also plugged the Wrestlemania Rewind matches.

5 – MICHELLE MCCOOL vs. TIFFANY

Oh God, I’d forgotten how bad Tiffany’s music is. Hopefully, she used her time off to brush up on her wrestling skills. McCool pushed Tiffany down and did jumping jacks and push-ups. Atomic Drop by Tiffany, followed by a clothesline. Kick to the gut sent McCool to ringside. Tiffany went right after her, shoving her down from behind. She bounced McCool’s head off the apron as Layla and Vickie Guerrero looked on from ringside. Tiffany whipped McCool into the barricade. No ten-count yet? Vickie charged at Tiffany and took her down with a shoulder tackle in full view of the referee, drawing a DQ.

WINNER: Tiffany, via DQ, at 1:28. Well, Tiffany showed a bit of promise.

McCool continued the beat-down on the outside, then took Tiffany in the ring for more. But before she get physical, Beth Phoenix ran to the ring. She tossed Layla and McCool around, then grabbed Vickie by the arm as Guerrero tried to escape. Phoenix seemed to realize that she was about to hurt the person that can give her a title shot, so she slowly let go. Then she clotheslined Vickie down and was about to do more damage when McCool distracted Phoenix. Vickie ran out of the ring and to the back. Beth helped Tiffany to her feet, then raised her arm in the ring.

- Kane walked backstage. He faces Luke Gallows for the first time, next.

[Commercial Break]

6 – LUKE GALLOWS vs. KANE

During Luke’s entrance, they showed what happened when the Straight Edge Society crashed Rey’s daughter’s birthday party earlier in the night. Kane registered a shoulder knock-down for a one-count. Body shots by Gallows in the corner, and he had to be restrained by referee Chad Patton. It was a straight brawl early on, but Gallows did leave his feet for a shoulder tackle. Seated dropkick by Kane, who set up for the chokeslam early. Crowd chanted for Kane, but Gallows exited the ring to avoid it. He pow-wowed with Punk on the outside as they went to break about 1:40 into the match.

[Commercial Break]

The show returned with Gallows in control. Big suplex for a two-count. Darren Young was shown watching the match backstage. Clothesline by Gallows, then a big splash (shades of Festus) for two. Gallows hit the ropes, but ran right into a big boot. Kane capitalized with his usual hard-hitting offense. Striker called this match “almost like Kane vs. Bizarro Kane.” It’s funnier when you realize Gallows played the Impostor Kane during that short-lived Raw feud in 2006. Kane hit the chokeslam, which caused Punk to run in and interfere, leading to a DQ.

WINNER: Kane, via DQ, at 7:35. That’s two DQs and a no-contest in three matches in a row now. Match was on the high end of the Kane matches lately.

Rey Mysterio’s music hit and he slowly walked to the ring. The two men started brawling and referees (and agent Dean Malenko) had to hold Rey back as Punk high-tailed it to the back.

- Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel is next.

[Commercial Break]

- Chris Jericho was introduced and came to the ring for his interview segment. Edge came out before Jericho could say anything on the mic. Before either man could say anything, the crowd started up an unprovoked “spear” chant. Jericho asked why Edge was smiling. Edge said Jericho’s show is called the Highlight Reel, but the only highlight Jericho has been involved in lately has to do with a move Edge keeps hitting….but he couldn’t remember it, so he asked the fans to remind him. Jericho said it’s cute that Edge has the sheep in the crowd chanting for him. Jericho went to the “honest man” well, saying he only tells the truth. He accused Edge of “selfishly” getting hurt during their time as tag team champions. He said Edge seems to always get injured. Matter of fact, when Jericho stole the show with Shawn Michaels in that very city, Edge was watching at home. Jericho said he was losing while Edge was sitting at home, and the crowd popped for that. Edge recounted Jericho’s losses at Wrestlemanias 19 and 20 to Jericho and Christian. Jericho countered by saying he was forging a Hall-of-Fame career, injury-free.

Edge asked what the point was. He said he gets injured because he takes risks. He said his style may have taken years off his career, but he faces adversity without fear and has no regrets. He said he’d do whatever it takes at Wrestlemania to get his World Title back. Jericho said Edge has taken a lot of risks, which would include agreeing to face him at ‘Mania. He accused Edge of never succeeding on his own, and said his best years came when he was with Vickie Guerrero. Edge said, “touché,” and said everybody has girlfriends they regret. For him, it was Vickie, and for Chris, it was Big Show. Fans liked that one. Jericho reminded Edge that bad things will happen if he sticks around Jericho. He talked about Edge’s quick recovery from his Achilles injury, but said it will cost him because he doesn’t think Edge is 100% healthy. Jericho guessed that Edge is still injured, and while the fans would love to see Edge standing tall at Wrestlemania, but the reality is that he will beat Edge. Not only hurt him, but send him home for another six months. Jericho guaranteed this. Edge countered by saying he’s going to do something at ‘Mania too: Make Jericho an ex-World Champion. And he’ll do it after hitting him with a spear.

As soon as he got the word “spear” out, Jericho bopped him with the mic, then took one of the stools from the set and took Edge down with it. Jericho tried to throw Edge into the JeriTron, but Edge shoved Jericho away and took him down. He set up for a spear, but Jericho grabbed the belt as he rose to his feet. It was unbeknownst to Edge, because he went for the spear only for Jericho to nail him with the belt. Jericho began to do the “spear, spear, spear” mantra while pointing to the fans. The last one was said quietly, in the face of the fallen Edge. Well, Jericho finally one-upped his Wrestlemania opponent. As Jericho’s music played, they replayed the key moments in the brawl. Jericho held the title above his head as the show faded out.
