On the main event of a very turbulent Friday Night SmackDown, Kevin
Owens took a very painful stand against Universal Champion Roman
Reigns by unleashing a brutal chair assault on Jey Uso.
Roman Reigns chastised Jey Uso for his failures; an unhinged Uso
unleashed a chair assault on Otis
An enthusiastic Jey Uso opened SmackDown to praise Universal
Champion Roman Reigns for his win against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre
at Survivor Series.
However, when The Big Dog emerged with Paul Heyman at his side, he
proceeded to chastise Jey relentlessly for his “failures” and for
letting down his entire family at Survivor Series. Reigns then
walked out on his cousin and left him to his perceived disgrace.
In response, Jey Uso became completely unhinged. As Otis was
entering for his match against King Corbin, Uso, who teamed with
Otis in a losing effort at Survivor Series, unleashed a vicious
chair assault on “The Blue-collar Bulldozer.”
Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode def. The Street Profits
After overcoming Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day in a classic
matchup at Survivor Series, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford returned
to SmackDown as the conquering heroes to once again battle the
self-proclaimed best tag team, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.
Ford nearly scored the victory with a gravity-defying maneuver, but
chaos took over, and Roode picked up the non-title victory on the
champs.
Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn def. Daniel Bryan by Count-out
Never making a secret about his opinion that Sami Zayn is not what
an Intercontinental Champion should be, Daniel Bryan looked to shut
the mouth of the outspoken titleholder and get one step closer to
taking the Intercontinental Championship.
When the a knock-down, drag-out battle moved outside the ring in the
final moment, Bryan battled his opponent all the way to the
backstage area. And just when the official was about to count out
both Superstars, Zayn sprinted back to the ring and picked up the
win by count-out.
Bianca Belair def. Natalya
In the wake of Survivor Series, the SmackDown women’s team found
themselves at each other’s throats, leading to a clash between
Bianca Belair and Natalya with Bayley joining the SmackDown
commentary team.
When the action spread outside the ring and Bayley engaged in a war
of words with Belair, The EST of WWE laid out the former
titleholder, seemingly by accident. When Bayley jumped on the apron
to take issue, she collided with The Queen of Harts as she hit the
ropes and opened the door for Belair to pick up the pin on “The
BOAT.”
In the aftermath, the victorious Belair exchanged a little trash
talking with Bayley.
Murphy def. King Corbin
After King Corbin insulted the Mysterio family earlier in the night,
Murphy went one on one with the brash monarch.
The Mysterios made their presence known with multiple distractions.
And when Murphy went for the pin and Corbin managed to get his foot
on the ropes, Dominik threw the leg back off and allowed Murphy to
pick up the win.
After the match, an enraged Corbin called out the disruption.
Demanding a rematch against Murphy next week, he made it clear that
he would be prepared.
Kevin Owens def. Jey Uso by disqualification
After Jey Uso attacked Daniel Bryan moments after Bryan’s match,
Kevin Owens confronted Universal Champion Roman Reigns about the
ongoing “family issues” and said The Big Dog treated his family like
“trash.” In response, Reigns told Uso to fix the situation, and a
main event match was made between Jey and KO.
Uso once again grabbed the chair and earned a disqualification,
intent on making Owens fear the family, but KO struck back with a
Stunner.
Then, Owens turned the tables on Uso by unleashing a brutal chair
onslaught of his own. The whole time, Owens taunted Reigns to come
find him as the Big Dog watched from a monitor. KO helped himself to
a seat at the end of the announce table — symbolizing himself as the
head of the table — and made it clear that he would be watching for
the Universal Champion.
